For any collectors out there, I’ve contributed a signed US first edition hardcover of Tower Lord (Raven’s Shadow Book 2) to the fundraising efforts for horror author Brian Keene who recently suffered severe burns in an accident. Like many US authors, Brian doesn’t have medical insurance and is facing bills in excess of $250,000 for his treatment.
Bidding starts at $50 and the auction will close in five days. Please also be sure to check out the other auctions for this fundraiser which include signed books by Stephen King, Alan Baxter, and Christopher Golden.
‘Legendary warrior King Tavurek marshals his mercenary army to combat a mighty Volarian host led by a man known to history as the Spear-point. In the blood-bath that follows, there can be only one victor. The final battle between the city state of Kethia and the Volarian Empire, as told by Imperial Chronicler Lord Verniers, is an event shrouded in many secrets and, some say, wrought by servants of the Dark.’
Many thanks to Kevin Goeke for the spectacular cover art. You can view more of Kevin’s work here: https://movco-art.com/

For any Czech readers: – Book-blogger Veronica Burgerová is running a competition to win signed Czech editions of Blood Song and Tower Lord at http://imanence.blogspot.cz/2016/05/blogtour-2016-soutez.html. My German publisher, Hobbit Presse, has relaunched their website – http://www.hobbitpresse.de/ – as the central meeting point for fantasy readers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This is what you can find there:
– News about Hobbit Presse authors and books
– Downloads of the Hobbit Presse Newspaper ‘Tolkien Times’, beginning from 2001, including many articles from the Tolkien Times and Klett-Cotta Blog.
– Book trailers and video interviews.
– Information about author readings or appearance dates.
To celebrate I’m running Goodreads giveaways for signed audio CD editions of Das Lied des Blutes (Blood Song) and Der Herr des Turmes (Tower Lord) – read by Detlief Biestedt, translation by Hans and Sara Riffel. Winners will also receive a signed bookplate for each book. The German language edition of Queen of Fire is due for release in September so watch out for another Giveaway then.
Author’s Note – The following story takes place in the same world as my novel Blood Song, the first volume in the Raven’s Shadow trilogy. I wrote it because I wanted to more fully explore characters who appear in Blood Song and the sequels Tower Lord and Queen of Fire. Readers familiar with my work are sure to recognise a certain pale-eyed, raspy voiced Sword Master of the Sixth Order and those curious as to the origins of the Tower Lord of the Southern Shore will find answers here. The tale takes place at the mid-point of the timeline described in Blood Song, a time when King Janus, with typical ruthlessness, is in the process of fully consolidating his grip on the Unified Realm.
‘The Lord Collector by Anthony Ryan: a grim introduction to our protagonist, Jehrid, leader of an Excise Guard unit (think a kind of investigative military) to kick this story off. Jehrid is tasked by his Tower Lord with working with Brother Sollis of the Sixth Order and two others with finding a passenger from a month-old shipwreck. But Jehrid has another agenda: vengeance. A story told with standard Anthony Ryan style. Enjoyable, violent, somber at times and galloping like a horse at others.’ – Adrian Collins, Grimdark Magazine
The Orbit UK paperback edition of Queen of Fire is now available (hopefully) in all good British bookshops or online here: Amazon.co.uk, WH Smith, Waterstones, The Hive Network. I’ll also be starting a Goodreads giveaway contest for four signed copies on 15th February, so watch out for that.
