This week I carried out a long overdue review of my sales figures and it turns out that, thanks to The Empire of Ashes, I’ve now sold over one million books in English worldwide. It all feels a bit surreal given that it doesn’t seem that long ago when I wrote this post about reaching the what I once thought to be the impossibly out of reach goal of surpassing ten thousand sales, but I guess six years is a long time in publishing.
As a thank you to all my readers for making this happen I’m running a mailing list giveaway for a rare signed US first edition hardcover of the book that started it all – Blood Song. The giveaway is open to all existing mailing list subscribers and anyone who joins the list before midnight GMT on July 31st. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on August 1st.
Click here to join the mailing list.
For all the data freaks out there, here’s a percentage breakdown of those sales by format:
Ebook – 51%
Audiobook – 21%
Mass Market Paperback – 16%
Trade Paperback – 7%
Hardcover – 5%
For any collectors out there, I’ve contributed a signed US first edition hardcover of Tower Lord (Raven’s Shadow Book 2) to the fundraising efforts for horror author Brian Keene who recently suffered severe burns in an accident. Like many US authors, Brian doesn’t have medical insurance and is facing bills in excess of $250,000 for his treatment.
The auction is listed on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOWER-LORD-Anthony-Ryan-Signed-Limited-Brian-Keene-Fundraising-Auction/163102890574
Bidding starts at $50 and the auction will close in five days. Please also be sure to check out the other auctions for this fundraiser which include signed books by Stephen King, Alan Baxter, and Christopher Golden.
You can also contribute to Brian’s Gofundme page here: https://www.gofundme.com/brian-keene-burn-fund
Many thanks to Hank Garner of the Author Stories podcast for inviting me to come on and talk about all manner of fantasy and writing related gubbins. You can download the podcast on the show’s website or via iTunes, Android or Stitcher.
The US eBook edition of Blood Song – Book One of the Raven’s Shadow series – is currently on sale in the US at $2.99 (along with a lot of other really good books – Tad Williams’ Otherland is a real bargain at $2.99). Click here for where to buy or use the links on the Book Page.
I’m not sure how long this price will last so act now if you haven’t gotten round to this one it yet.

‘Legendary warrior King Tavurek marshals his mercenary army to combat a mighty Volarian host led by a man known to history as the Spear-point. In the blood-bath that follows, there can be only one victor. The final battle between the city state of Kethia and the Volarian Empire, as told by Imperial Chronicler Lord Verniers, is an event shrouded in many secrets and, some say, wrought by servants of the Dark.’
Many thanks to Kevin Goeke for the spectacular cover art. You can view more of Kevin’s work here: https://movco-art.com/
The story was originally published in the Unfettered II anthology from Grim Oak Press.
