I’m delighted to announce my next novel The Wolf’s Call, the first volume in a two-part series The Raven’s Blade which is a return to the world of Raven’s Shadow and will continue the story of Vaelin Al Sorna.
The Wolf’s Call will be published in summer of 2019 by Ace/Roc in the USA and Canada and by Orbit in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. No word yet on non-English editions but I’ll keep you all updated whenever I hear anything.
You can read the press release from Ace/Roc here: http://www.unboundworlds.com/2018/08/anthony-ryan-to-return-to-the-world-of-blood-song-in-2019/
I know that for some of you the next twelve months might be a very long wait, so here’s some teaser dialogue to make it worse:
‘You don’t know what you did… You don’t know what you awoke. But you will, brother. It saw you, it saw everything, and it grew hungrier than ever.’
This week I carried out a long overdue review of my sales figures and it turns out that, thanks to The Empire of Ashes, I’ve now sold over one million books in English worldwide. It all feels a bit surreal given that it doesn’t seem that long ago when I wrote this post about reaching the what I once thought to be the impossibly out of reach goal of surpassing ten thousand sales, but I guess six years is a long time in publishing.
As a thank you to all my readers for making this happen I’m running a mailing list giveaway for a rare signed US first edition hardcover of the book that started it all – Blood Song. The giveaway is open to all existing mailing list subscribers and anyone who joins the list before midnight GMT on July 31st. The winner will be chosen at random and notified on August 1st.
For all the data freaks out there, here’s a percentage breakdown of those sales by format:
Ebook – 51%
Audiobook – 21%
Mass Market Paperback – 16%
Trade Paperback – 7%
Hardcover – 5%
For any collectors out there, I’ve contributed a signed US first edition hardcover of Tower Lord (Raven’s Shadow Book 2) to the fundraising efforts for horror author Brian Keene who recently suffered severe burns in an accident. Like many US authors, Brian doesn’t have medical insurance and is facing bills in excess of $250,000 for his treatment.
The auction is listed on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOWER-LORD-Anthony-Ryan-Signed-Limited-Brian-Keene-Fundraising-Auction/163102890574
Bidding starts at $50 and the auction will close in five days. Please also be sure to check out the other auctions for this fundraiser which include signed books by Stephen King, Alan Baxter, and Christopher Golden.

Many thanks to Hank Garner of the Author Stories podcast for inviting me to come on and talk about all manner of fantasy and writing related gubbins. You can download the podcast on the show’s website or via iTunes, Android or Stitcher.
The US eBook edition of Blood Song – Book One of the Raven’s Shadow series – is currently on sale in the US at $2.99 (along with a lot of other really good books – Tad Williams’ Otherland is a real bargain at $2.99). Click here for where to buy or use the links on the Book Page.
I’m not sure how long this price will last so act now if you haven’t gotten round to this one it yet.
‘Legendary warrior King Tavurek marshals his mercenary army to combat a mighty Volarian host led by a man known to history as the Spear-point. In the blood-bath that follows, there can be only one victor. The final battle between the city state of Kethia and the Volarian Empire, as told by Imperial Chronicler Lord Verniers, is an event shrouded in many secrets and, some say, wrought by servants of the Dark.’
Many thanks to Kevin Goeke for the spectacular cover art. You can view more of Kevin’s work here: https://movco-art.com/
The story was originally published in the Unfettered II anthology from Grim Oak Press.
In other news my US publisher is running a Goodreads giveaway for 10 copies of The Legion of Flame (Draconis Memoria book 2), go here to enter: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/235190-the-legion-of-flame
I’ll be doing a mailing list giveaway for some signed Legion of Flame hardcovers closer to the release date so sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out.
Thanks to Grimdark Magazine for publishing the new Raven’s Shadow novella The Lady of Crows, which is released today. Also many thanks to Jason Deem for the marvellous cover art – you can see more of Jason’s work here.
The audiobook version of The Lady of Crows, an all new Raven’s Shadow novella, is now available on Audible.com, Audible.co.uk and the Apple iStore, narrated by Steven Brand. Thanks to everyone at Podium Publishing for making this happen. I may be biased but I think Steven really outdid himself with this one.
