‘The Waking Fire’ – Now Available for Pre-order

The Waking Fire, Book One of my new series The Draconis Memoria, is now available for pre-order in ebook and hardcover (no audiobook pre-order yet – the audio version usually appears two months before release). Here’s the jacket description from the hardcover edition (cover images to come when I’m allowed to share them):

“The New York Times bestselling Raven’s Shadow Trilogy was a perfect read for “fans of broadscale epic fantasy along the lines of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series and George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels.” (Library Journal) Now, Anthony Ryan begins a new saga, The Draconis Memoria…

Throughout the vast lands controlled by the Ironship Syndicate, nothing is more prized than the blood of drakes. Harvested from the veins of captive or hunted Reds, Green, Blues and Blacks, it can be distilled into elixirs that give fearsome powers to the rare men and women who have the ability harness them—known as the blood-blessed.

But not many know the truth: that the lines of drakes are weakening. If they fail, war with the neighboring Corvantine Empire will follow swiftly. The Syndicate’s last hope resides in whispers of the existence of another breed of drake, far more powerful than the rest, and the few who have been chosen by fate to seek it.

Claydon Torcreek is a petty thief and an unregistered blood-blessed, who finds himself pressed into service by the protectorate and sent to wild, uncharted territories in search of a creature he believes is little more than legend. Lizanne Lethridge is a formidable spy and assassin, facing gravest danger on an espionage mission deep into the heart of enemy territory. And Corrick Hilemore is the second lieutenant of an ironship, whose pursuit of ruthless brigands leads him to a far greater threat at the edge of the world.

As lives and empires clash and intertwine, as the unknown and the known collide, all three must fight to turn the tide of a coming war, or drown in its wake.”

The book will be released on July 5th in the US and July 7th in the UK. Pre-order from the following retailers:

Awesome! Will be adding this to my wishlist. Any news on the follow ups to Raven’s Shadow? Also, The Hall of the Diamond Queen – is that part of any universe or series or is that a standalone story?

    • Anthony Ryan

Thanks Todd. There be some short Raven’s Shadow stuff appearing over the next couple of years, but no full length books for a while. The Hall of the Diamond Queen is a standalone that doesn’t link to any other world.
      Thanks for reading.
      Anthony

Awesome. So more stuff in the vein of The Lord Collector? (which was amazing). I’d love to see a short story for Nortah and Reva. I feel Vaelin would be able to have his own book venturing to the Far West or something like that.

And thank you for writing such good stories!

Hello Anthony. I’m so excited for your new series. It sounds intriguing! I love dragons, so I can’t wait to read your own particular treatment of this subject. And it would be awesome to see more Raven’s Shadow stories, even if just short stories or novellas. Would you be able to give us a peek at any artwork soon for Draconis Memoria?

      Hi Amelia,
The next Raven’s Shadow story to appear will (probably) be A Duel of Evils, a short story I contributed to the upcoming Unfettered II anthology from Grim Oak Press, currently slated for release in July 2016. Also hope to write another novella this year if time permits.
I’ve seen a draft of Jaime Jones’ cover for UK edition of The Waking Fire, which was pretty spectacular, sadly not allowed to share anything yet. Hopefully won’t be too much longer.
      Best,
      Anthony

That’s awesome, so much to look forward to in July! I assume there will also be an audio book for Draconis Memoria? And if there is, will Steven Brand be narrating that also? Thank you!

There will be a Waking Fire audiobook – no details on the voice talent yet, but watch this space.

Sorry, I don’t know why I keep thinking of the book title as Draconis Memoria. Possibly because it’s very cool, and Dracon was the name of our beloved Chinese Water Dragon, now three years deceased. Thanks again, Anthony!

I actually pre-ordered the ebook from Amazon July 27th last year, strange as you write that it is available now.
Never mind, I am looking forward to the reading 🙂
